Acropolis of Athens

Homage to the Gods of Old

One of the greatest monuments of the old world, The Acropolis is an ancient citadel above the city of Athens containing the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. Although the term acropolis (meaning "city at the highest point") with many other acropolis in Greece, the significance of the Acropolis of Athens is so great that has become known as The Acropolis without qualification. In ancient times, it was known as Cecropia after the legendary serpent-man, Cecrops, the first Athenian king.
