Novodevichy Convent

UNESCO World Heritage Site in Moscow

Founded in 1524 by Vasili III, the Grand Prince of Moscow, the Convent was built to commemorate his conquest of Smolensk in 1514. Also known as the Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery (New Maidens' Monastery), it is probably the best-known cloister of Moscow as it has remained virtually intact since the 17th century unlike the other cloisters in Moscow.
