Virgen Del Carmen Festival

The Virgin of Carmen was also known as Stella Maris, or "Star of the Sea"

The biggest, most colorful and most popular event in Paucartambo, a town in Southern Peru, the Virgen Del Carmen Festival is held in honour of the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, regarded as the mother of mestizos (people of both Spanish and indigenous heritage). The celebration is replete with parades, choirs singing in Quechua and performance groups that dramatise various historical events.
